More Terrain

     Well I have managed some hobby time for myself and with it I created another piece of terrain. I had someone comment that they liked the start to finish approach so this one took me a few days to get all the pics I needed for the post. No other formalities lets get right to it.

     I start out with some sort of base for the piece. This happens to be a piece of 1/4" plywood. Since I have really liked what I am able to get by starting with some pink poly foam on the base I cut a few pieces from the scrap and arrange them on the base. I like using this on the base because it allows me to do some work below the floor. I can make craters or carve out parts of the side. Overall I just like what it does to a simple piece of ruins.

Another Piece of Terrain

Here are some shots of one of the other pieces of terrain I have recently worked on. This piece was done with pretty much the same steps as this one was. Just a few pics and a real brief explanation of what I have done. More pictures after the jump.

Some new terrain

I am back to my old ways again and I am running a Cities of Death tournament. I have managed to square away some time to my self so to prepare I have been working on some new terrain. I have been trying to add more detail to the pieces I am able to do.

I started with pink foam insulation glued to a piece of hardwood base. I want the look of a foundation as well as the ability to work below the ground level of the building. I took the foam and carved out a hole so I could imbed one of the pieces of terrain from the Battle for Macragg box. So the foam looks like a floor I scribed some lines into foam with a ball point pen. I did make one mistake when doing this. I drew the line all the way to the edge, and I probably should have stopped before I got to the edge. I also added some wedges at the tip of the cockpit so it looks like the wreckage has buried itself into the foundation.

Well, still pluggin away at some consolidation of my gaming stuff. Unfortunately school takes a lot of my time, and when I do get into my game room I have to work on getting that wrapped up. Having said that I think I am at a point where I can pause that for a while and actually work on some models.

Recently I have been playing some 40K with my Black Templar. Trying out a new list that I plan on taking to a local tournament that "I am not running". It is 1500 and I am taking the list a completely different direction. I used to play multiple Crusaders with troops inside along with some other mech. This time I am going all deepstrike. Played 2 games so far one win, the other a loss to Brent's Eldar that I will say had a bit of influence from my dice. 

Anyway, hopefully after I build the models I need to complete the 1500 points, I will see if I can get some painting done.

No time to work on minis...clearing out old stock.

Since I have not had any time to work on any new minis, I therefor have not written anything for you lovely people to read. Most of my spare time lately has been devoted to making an attempt to clear out some of my older minis that I am pretty sure will never get used. I have been thinking about paring down my collection since the beginning of the year and now I need to consolidate my computer room into my game room so no time like the present.

I have however had a few moments to assemble and test a bit of Helldorado. My initial impressions are pretty good. It is hard to say right now, but I think I am going to like the way some of the interactions work. Add to that the fact that I like a lot of the miniatures and this one may have staying power. We will see how the locals take to it.

As for the minis...I like the look and feel of most of the factions. There are a lot of smaller pieces that may become a problem later on if they get lost but they do make for a good looking miniature. The casting is good but not great. What do I mean by that? Well almost everyone of the models I bought had mold lines that needed to be cleaned off and some were fairly thick in places. In addition there were a few models that had mold lines running right down the center of the face. That is a pet peeve if mine. As a manufacturer you have to know that any mold line on a face will most likely be unrepairable by the normal gamer and therefor curses the model to look like Slough from the Goonies.

On the other hand, maybe when I am done removing minis from my collection I can do a hobby cribs article about what is left.
