I usually don't do this, but I think this is a really good article on how to do True Metallic Metals. For the most part there are two ways to approach painting metals. True Metallic Metals (TMM) or Non-Metallic Metals (NMM).

Non-Metallic Metal is a process brought over from other art forms where instead of using metallic paint (paint containing small metal flakes), you paint using normal non-metallic paint. NMM is a fairly difficult technique to master and looks fantastic when done correctly, but unfortunately it looks really bad if done poorly.

True Metallic Metals is a process as varied as anything in miniature painting. It can be as simple as a metal base coat, a wash, and then a highlight, to the process in Monkeyman7x's article. As varied as the technique is the results. The results from TMM is not really any better or worse than NMM, both look spectacular when done well, but TMM has the benefit that when used by less skilled painters the results are better,

Some Airbrush Work

Many of you know that I have been striving to get control on my collection the last couple years. Part of those strives is consolidating or eliminating parts of my collection. With the implementation of the allies rules in 6th edition I began working on my Emperors Children. With the release of Forgeworld's Horus Heresy book, I decided to consolidate the usable pieces of my Black Templar into a loyal version. That would make one big army I could use. The Chaos parts as a Chaos Space Marine army, the loyalist parts as a Codex Space Marines army, and combined I will use them in Horus Heresy games I play.

One army, one color scheme and I settled on a pre-heresy purple and gold look. Specifically a more muted almost platinum looking gold. In addition I am using my airbrush to do as much of the base color as possible. What follows is the result of my 3rd attempt. Unfortunately I am unable to truely judge if I like them until the other colors are on the model.

RIP Airbrush Compressor

I guess I am now in the market for a new airbrush compressor. I am not dead in the water as I already have two, but the one that died was the work horse I used the most. It was a fairly inexpensive model I bought at Harbor Freight, but it was adjustable so I was not set with a single pressure.

My backup however stepped up and performed like a champ. It will not work as a long term solution as much of what I am doing with my airbrush now requires much lower pressures than he puts out. I might try moving the regulator to the old one and see what happens. If that does not work I will need to get something else.

Now I just have to decide what I want to get to replace it. I think I might actually need to move up to something bigger and maybe has a tank. I am just worried about the noise. The one that just died was pretty quiet and the less noise the less likely it will draw aggro from the misses.
